AFGHANISTAN TRUST DAY – MIDDLESEX V AUSTRALIA – SAT 19 JUNE
On Saturday 19 June this year the Grandstands at Lord’s will be packed full of Middlesex members and supporters, loud groups of Australians and a smattering of all those who just enjoy a good game of cricket. We hope that there will be room for a large number of serving and retired soldiers from The Parachute Regiment, for in addition to hosting what will hopefully be a memorable day of cricket between Middlesex and the Australians, the day is also being used as a fundraising day for the Afghanistan Trust.
The Afghanistan Trust (see www.afghanistantrust.org) was formed in 2007 to help support soldiers and their families who have served with The Parachute Regiment in Afghanistan and who have been wounded or killed as a consequence. Two battalions of The Parachute Regiment will be on operations in Afghanistan again later in 2010 and, as is stated on the trust’s website, ‘As more members of The Parachute Regiment deploy on more operational tours in Afghanistan the need for the fund will continue to grow as more soldiers are wounded or killed.’
WHAT’S HAPPENING ON THE DAY?
v the Red Devils Parachute Display Team will ‘drop’ onto the Main Ground at Lord’s;
v the Regimental Band of The Parachute Regiment will perform in front of the stands during the interval.
Please visit http://www.club-cricket.com/middlesex for more information about the game and how to buy tickets for the match. You will also find details of T.20 matches being played at Lords through the link.
